[Film vs. Book #1] The City of Bones

Source of the film poster
Hi, guys! This is my first post and it's Film vs. Book. In this section, I'm going to compare the film and the book adaptations. It's some type of film reviews. And as a first episode of these series of posts, I will compare adaptations of The City of Bones. I want to say that I liked the film and I didn't like it at the same time. So, I'll tell you good and dreadful bad things about it. Let's start! :)

The Good Things:
 1.: Cast
Yes, the actors were pretty good. Althouht not everyone of them, but  most of them were. For example, Godfrey Gao was perfect Magnus  Bane. He played him so realistic and he got Magnus' charism and  behaviour. Exactly how I imagined him during the first reading of the  book. Other great actor was Robert Sheehan who played Simon.  These two actors were the best of the best and they were reason why  I still like this film adaptation!

2.: Really good quote which isn't in the book
Fans of the book who saw the film know that this new quote was  perfect. It was exactly in the same style as Cassandra Clare  writes(author of the book). It was full of sarcasm and it sounded  naturally from Alec's mounth!

'Does she look perfect, Alec?'
'She looks like someone whose phone number should be on the bathroom wall.'

3.: The right sense of being Parabatai
For people who haven't read the book, Parabatai means 'more than brothers'. And this kind of relationship was presented really good and truely. Maybe it was because actors are friends in the real life, too! :)

4.: They kept Alec's sexuality
I think this is really important because being gay is big part of Alec. And also if they didn't keep it in the film, they would leave out other really important scenes from the next books.

The Bad Things:
Source
1.: Clary's hair
In the book, Clary has carrot-red hair. But in the movie, Lily Collins had hair in a shade of brown or something like that. And that's so wrong because true ginger hair are part of the Clary's personality.

2.: Where are Valentine's blond hair?
Seriously, Valentine has blond even white hair and the actor had true dark hair. It seems like not a big mistake, but we can't really see logic connection between Valentine and Jace. And we should see that 'cause they are father and son.

3.: Demons in the Institute
I don't know how they could do this, but they did. Reason why Shadowhunters live in the Institute is that they are in the safe against demons there. Demons couldn't be in the Institute because the Institutes are kind of a holy place.

Reasons why it wasn't so good film for the readers are more than I mentioned. But they're more reasons why it was really good film, too! :) Have you seen that or read the book? Do you agree with me or not?
Yours Bethany Bee
